Star Chart Software Overview, by Christopher Ober
Abstract:
This daytime class will give you a taste of several of the most popular and often used star charting software available.
We’ll go over the basics of initial configuration, usage and how to go further into the software.
Free and paid versions will be covered on Windows, Mac, and some tablet platforms. You will have a chance to see the programs in action and try them out on demo laptops.
Software covered:
- Sky Tools 3 by Skyhound (Free Trial available)
- TheSkyX by Software Bisque
- Cartes du Ciel by Patrick Chevalley (available at Software Forge)
- Starry Night
- Sky Safari by Simulation Curriculum Corporation
- Stellarium (an open source project)
Prerequisites:
None other than being familiar with basic computer operations. If you bring your own laptop, you’re welcome to pre-install any trial software listed above or CDs will be provided with trial installations (if available).
