We have set up in the lower field all but one time since 2006 and prefer it since it is close to our RV. If you get lucky and can get a RV site beside the upper field it is nice up there but seems like those spots are very hard to get without knowing the right people.

But regardless the lower field is fine for even imaging as there are very few cars at night and ample time to see them coming if you want to shield your scope. Plenty of room for tents around the field and usually good electric. Nice to have a short walk to your RV.

I would like to ask the TSP crew about the possibility of more/longer electric runs this year. The trees are getting larger every year and forcing us to move farther down to avoid them, would be nice to have them longer.

As for cell coverage, yep hit or miss, mostly miss. But there are a couple spots near the upper and middle field you might be able to get enough to make a call or text. Otherwise a good excuse to drive into Fort Davis.

Internet has been a question the last year or so since the ranch is providing it, sort of. TSP use to do a great job when they did it, not sure why the ranch thinks they can do better. But you can get it around the main lodge areas.

Still my favorite star party of the year, and why I am willing to drive 1400 miles to get there.

Alum foil works well taped to the inside of the windows. Or reflective wrap in between the blinds and window works well, and it also keeps heat out during the daytime. Just remember even a very small crack of light can be seen a long ways off. And red film works but only for dim lights.

    Hi Colin,

We have a group of mostly imagers that will be set up in the east end of the lower field near the RV sites. I will have an 18″ starmaster and refractor for visual while imaging. You would be more than welcome to come by and share the views. A friend will have his astrotrac and I am sure you would be welcome to try it out.

    Enjoy you first TSP.

That does sound like it will be a nice set up this year.  Having them all together makes it easier to spend our money 🙂  Hopefully they will all get the news and attend again this year. Thanks for the info.

Latest Accuweather says it will cool off mid week and have lows in the upper 30’s. But clear all week!! Bring your long underwear 🙂

    Hi David,

We will be set up in the lower field since it is adjacent to our RV’s. There is plenty of space to set up and have your trailer and SUV next to the scope, just like at OkieTex. Less crowded but we are getting more people down there each year.

The southern view is ok. We can image Omega just fine. And we are next to the all night snack bar too 🙂

All fields are good and have their own character.
